Assessing temperature, humidity, vibration, and the stability of the external electrical network during selection can offer a more realistic view of performance.

Safety features are imperative before installing a power supply. Overload protection, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, and overheating safeguards can help mitigate equipment damage and enhance system reliability. Compliance with electrical safety standards, such as IEC 62368-1, may be applicable depending on the equipment and product category. Manufacturers should provide relevant technical documentation and certification for the intended market. For instance, LED applications demand careful attention to output voltage, strip length, current requirements, and cable voltage drop to avoid flickering, excessive heat, or inconsistent brightness. Lastly, IP20-rated switching power supplies are suitable for indoor installations where water exposure is not a concern, offering protection against solid objects but not against water ingress or dust intrusion.
