Iran has firmly denied any involvement in the conflict currently unfolding in Yemen, asserting that the Houthi forces are autonomous and make decisions independently. An official statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, delivered by spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, emphasized that Tehran does not meddle in Yemeni affairs. Baghaei dismissed allegations connecting Iran to recent events involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen, attributing the conflict to long-standing issues rooted within Yemen itself.
In a related development, Baghaei confirmed the postponement of a meeting initially scheduled to take place in Oman, which was to include Iran and Gulf nations. This gathering, intended to focus on regional security and cooperation, was delayed at the behest of Saudi Arabia. The discussions were also anticipated to provide a platform for Iran and Oman to present their agreement concerning maritime routes in the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the setback of the postponed meeting, Baghaei reassured that the understanding between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz had been successfully finalized. He noted that both countries are now considering the next steps to implement this agreement. The delay does not seem to affect the bilateral progress between Iran and Oman on this front.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, commented on the postponement of the regional meeting, suggesting that the decision was made to foster a broader consensus. He reiterated Oman’s dedication to maintaining dialogue and promoting regional stability and long-term cooperation, underscoring the importance of such diplomatic endeavors in navigating complex regional dynamics.
